After 0.2.0: what comes next
2021-10-29 · Tarnholm
Welcome to a brand new developer diary! It's been some time since we last shared what we are working on, but before I do so let's recap a bit and see what's happened since the last diary was published.
After many months of development, we finally released 0.2.0 on the 17th of September. 0.2.0 brought many new features such as our version of the Mundus Magnus map with 199 provinces, a new recruitment system, new faction icons and banners, close to 300 new music tracks, stronger free peoples, new environments, skies, lighting and clouds, new descriptions for factions, units and buildings, plenty of new traits, upgraded horses and some updated units as well as garrison scripts.
As you can see that's a long list of changes and it might not be a surprise that there were some bugs that the team and the testers didn't find before release. However, we have released no less than 3 patches since then, fixing most if not all the issues 0.2.0 introduced!
Our environmentalist expert Swagger also released the RTR:IS - Standalone Graphics mod so that any Rome Remastered game can get access to our improvements when it comes to clouds (that move!), lighting, colour correction, colour grading, and even some battle map textures and particles.
So now that we have talked about the past let me talk and show you some things we have been working on in parallel to patching up 0.2.0:
.

Our inhouse environmentalists have been hard at work updating the ground textures as well as adding in objects like rocks and flowers.

A massive effort has been made to update the current (and all future) unit looks with the help of PBR. Shown here is a unit without any PBR work.

And here we see the same unit with PBR applied. As you can see it makes a massive difference. The old units did have a very rudimental version of PBR but as you will see the updated versions makes a huge difference!

And to further demonstrate the upgrade here are some pictures of RIS units. Enjoy!
