Pergamon and the last factions before 0.5.0
2022-09-30 · Rex Basiliscus

Hello, everyone!
The new major RIS update is due to release very soon, so this will be the last Dev Diary before 0.5.0! We have already shown you all the new factions and their positions; we have also showcased the new Seleucid, Ptolemaic, Bactrian, Antigonid and Epirote Greek units, which have been created by our wonderful team of artists.
For now, however, there are three more factions that we still need to talk about in terms of re-mastered units: Pergamon, Pontus and Kyrene.

Pergamon
The city of Pergamon sits surrounded by the mighty Seleucid Empire, which is also their overlord at the start of the campaign. Philetairos, the old lord of the city, has governed it loyally for more than 10 years now, but in a constantly changing world security is the biggest luxury.
Develop quickly and be wary of the regional political situation, for your survival may depend on your hawkish inclinations …

When you do decide to support your freedom with arms, *these* will come in handy:

Pontus
The hills and valleys of Pontus have long been an afterthought – the Persian satraps of Cappadocia considered them little more than a half-forgotten part of the Greater Cappadocia region, while the Greeks at the coast focused their attention on maritime affairs; prospering in their small and secluded strips of land.

With the arrival of Mithridates, and the separation of Greater Cappadocia into Cappadocia proper and Pontus, the small region can provide a haven for strong men and outcasts alike. With an opportunistic ruler holding the reins, supported in time by a reformed army, however, it can also transform from a rugged backwater into a powerful kingdom …

Kyrene
The Cyrenaican coastline is home to the Pentapolis (well, we at least have three of the five on our map!) of Greek cities, with the fortresses of Automala and Tetrapyrgia, in the west and the east respectively, marking the limits of the region. You also start with the settlement of Paraitonion on the border with Egypt, and at war with the Ptolemies.

Starting off as a pretender to the Ptolemaic throne in the form of your faction leader, Magas, you get not only the local Libyan and Cyrenaican Greek units, but also the potential to recruit some of the Hellenistic successor units.
However, you are a small faction, facing one of the strongest ones in game! You will need *all* of these units to succeed …
