Greek Reforms: Aspidophoroi
Who gets it: Acragas, Argos, Elis, Issa, Kydonia, Megalopolis and Messene
Chairete, noble citizens! We have received word that other Greek cities have started equipping some of their cavalrymen with shields…
Assembly: COWARDS!!
Now now, do not be so quick to judge. This new kind of cavalry has apparently proven to be quite effective for them. The enemies we face are not the same as those of our forefathers. We cannot afford to ignore such military developments, lest we fall behind and end up under some wanna-be-Alexander’s heel.
Assembly: <murmuring>
I say we institute this reform and make our own aspidophoroi. We need only to provide our existing cavalry with shields and appropriate armour if they do not already possess it. I assure you this will be quite the force. I’ve already made some preparations.
