Adoption of the Thureos
Who gets it: Syracuse
Chaire, Basileios, ruler of Sikelia, first citizen of Syrakousai, the queen of all cities! You have brought wealth and happiness to your people, you have restored the temples and pacified the land. Now, the time has come to conquer beyond Sicily and retake what the mighty Dionysios once ruled: the ancient valleys and bountiful coasts of Italia. For this enterprise, we have retrained our cavalry to bear the big Thureos shield, and we have re-equipped some of our Thureophoroi foot soldiers with heavier armour. These new units will make our army even more powerful. May Apollo guide us to victory - Syrakousai forever!
