The campaign brief
Our legendary land was once ruled by King Kydon, son of Hermes and Princess Akakallis. Here, on the North-Western coasts of Crete, we reign over a land where mighty Minoan palaces once stood, and Cretan sailors thrived. Our famed Cretan ships brought wealth to our trading partners and destruction to our enemies. We command hosts of mighty Cretan archers who bring glory to their employers and doom to their foes. Their accuracy is so precise that it feels as though their arrows are guided by the gods themselves. Perhaps they are, as we are the descendants of the gods, with the blood of Kydon flowing in our veins!
Our skill in archery is not the only virtue that we Cretans possess; we most definitely do not lack in bravery. If any enemy manages to approach a Cretan archer in close combat, they will be met with shield and knife. The Cretan will use these tools to harvest their lives away, much like a scythe cuts through over-ripe grain.
Kydonia needs room to grow, which is why we have expanded to various other cities throughout Crete. Now, we must challenge Knossos, the land where the Minotaur once lived. We will succeed in this war, as our arrows always find their mark! The friendship of king Ptolemaios, Athens or Sparta could be secured to support our expansion. After Knossos has been humbled, the road to the final unification of Crete will lay wide open before us. The constructions of mortal humans cannot stand firm against the mighty waves of Poseidon!
Knossos cannot limit us to Crete’s coast. They will either move out of our way, or we will march upon them and send them to the underworld to be judged by their King Minos. They will face the Minotaur, who will feast on the souls of those who tried to stop the expansion of the true and only sons of the gods! Once Crete is ours, we may deal with the Rhodians and the various Macedonian kings. Crete is not a land that they can add to their territories. It is not a target for conquest. Cretans are hunters, not prey! We will hunt them in their cities, in their palaces, in their homes. We will turn the world upside down, leaving nowhere for them to hide from our arrows and our wrath!
