The self-proclaimed "voice of reason" in Carthaginian politics! They are staunch defenders of the old ways, vouching for a cautious expansion around Africa, naval superiority, and centralized Carthaginian authority. The landed aristocrats tend to side with them versus the Barcids, preferring to concentrate on their African holdings. This man would desire to appease or even ally with northern states, in order to focus on expanding in Africa.

Repressive Rule: This governor believes that if a little force is good, a lot of force is better. He has crushed every rebellion, leaving the city as quiet as a grave. But hidding in the silence, the citizens plot.

Elis is ours, Athens has been defeated to submission, the arrogant Spartans have agreed to our terms, and Corinth is now garrisoned with men loyal to us. This man is a descendant of Mausolos of Caria, the famous satrap who erected the Mausoleum of Halikarnassos, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Mausolos' grandfather Hyssaldomos, priest of Zeus Labraundos at Mylasa, had become satrap in the years after the Peloponnesian War. He was followed by his son Hekatomnos, after whom the dynasty is named, and, subsequently, Mausolos and his various brothers and sisters until the death of Ada three years before Alexander the Great passed away. Some of the priest families of Mylasa are the wider relatives of the Hekatomnids, however, and pride themselves on their past.

This man is from rugged Anatolia, and has an affinity for robbing travellers and merchants that traverse poorly-patrolled roads and passes, where many unsavoury bands are wont to make their earnings. The Tauros range is in many places poor and fruitless, so it is no surprise that when there is devastation from war, excessive taxes, or poor harvest, its inhabitants, from Caria to Pisidia to Cilicia, resort to plunder and lawlessness to support themselves. While the people who live in these rugged lands form a good pool of soldiers, and these often sell their swords to the highest bidder, they can also easily turn into a formidable force of plunderers, thieves, and brigands.
